OSWEGO, NY – Oswego High School athletics has been an integral part if the Oswego City School District for 155 years and for the fourth consecutive year the hall of fame will welcome new inductees.
Through the tremendous support of the Buccaneer Boosters, Director of Physical Education and Athletics Scott Sugar is proud to announce that nominations are now being accepted for this year’s Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame class which will be inducted on Oct. 1.
Sugar said, “There a large number of individuals who have laid the groundwork and impacted the overall history of Oswego athletics. The hall of fame is an excellent way for us to recognize those individuals. We have had outstanding teams and athletes already inducted and we are looking forward to the newest inductees being recognized.”
One major change of the induction ceremony will be the date.
Sugar said, “We have been holding the event during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. However, we wanted to provide more time in the spotlight for our inductees and it is now part of a major fall weekend of sports.”
The inductees will be welcomed during halftime of the afternoon football game against Corcoran and that evening the induction ceremony will be conducted.
The hall is modeled after the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame with four categories of recognition; Athletes, Coaches, Contributor and Team.
Sugar said, “On behalf of the Buccaneer Boosters I ask alumni, family, friends, community members, faculty and staff to take a moment and nominate any individual who has made a substantial impact to Oswego Athletics.”
However, he stressed, “All past nominations are kept on file so there is no need to re-nominate anyone. The committee will be reviewing these in the weeks ahead and we are looking forward to further nominations.”
