NRG Global Giving Day Benefits American Red Cross

American Red Cross supporters across Oswego County were recently the beneficiaries of the NRG Global Giving Community Day. On Thursday, June 18th NRG Oswego Harbor Power held a companywide day of volunteering. Three NRG employees showed up at the local Red Cross office bright and early to deliver plates of cookies- that were homemade by Red Cross volunteers. The cookies, wrapped in red and white with a personalized thank you card for each delivery to be made, were ready to go. The volunteers then delivered the cookies to Red Cross donors across Oswego County from Cleveland, Mexico, Volney and back to the City of Oswego.</p>

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to show our donors how much we appreciate their support while at the same time working with NRG employees to give back to the community”, said Karen Ferguson, Branch Director at the Red Cross Oswego branch office. When they had completed the deliveries they received a plate of cookies and a thank you note for a job well done and truly appreciated. “The Red Cross is grateful to the NRG employees for allowing us to thank our donors in this very special way,” she added.

Global Giving Community Day is just one of the many employee-led efforts sponsored by the NRG’s Global Giving initiative. Over the past five years, NRG had made financial grants to non-profit organizations that address vital community needs through targeted and sustainable service programs consistent with the Company’s four focus areas: community and economic development, education and human welfare.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disaster; provides nearly half of the nation’s blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills and supports military members and their families. The American Red Cross is a charity, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
