The New York State Department of Transportation will hold an open house meeting on July 25 regarding a culvert replacement project on Route 49 over Slocum Creek in the town of West Monroe.
The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the West Monroe Town Hall, located at 46 County Route 11, in West Monroe.
Preliminary drawings for the upcoming project will be available for review and representatives from NYSDOT will be present to answer questions.
No formal presentation is planned.
The culvert is located on Route 49 approximately three miles east of Interstate 81.
It carries an eleven-foot lane and a four-foot shoulder in each direction over Slocum Creek. The average daily traffic is 15,400 vehicles.
Preliminary plans call for the culvert to be replaced in two stages, with alternating one-way traffic controlled by a signal during the three month construction duration. The lane and south shoulder width will be retained and the north shoulder width will be widened to six feet.
Due to the culvert’s proximity to County Route 11, turns into and out of CR 11 will be restricted to emergency vehicles only during the first half of construction.
Nearby roads are available for local traffic.
A signed detour will be available for over-width vehicles.
Work is expected to take place during the summer of 2015.
This open house is part of the continuing effort by the department to encourage public participation into the development of transportation projects.
The West Monroe Town Hall is handicapped accessible. Please contact Nick DeCirce, P.E. at (315) 428-3249 if a sign language interpreter, assisted listening system or other accommodation will be required to facilitate your participation in the open house.
