Manhattan, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell 87-57 to undefeated New York University in the NYU Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Coles Sports Center.
With the loss, the Lakers fall to 4-4 on the season while NYU improves to 9-0.
Oswego was led by transfer Haley Witchella’s 12 points while she also tied for the team-best with six rebounds.
Withchella was a presence on defense, showing her skills with five blocks on the day.
Also grabbing six boards in the contest was Paula Egelston who chipped in six points as well.
Mary Mazella was the other double-digit scorer for the Lakers, tallying 10 points in the game.
NYU opened the game on a 9-2 run but Oswego would not bow down, scoring 12 of the game’s next 19 points to bring the opponent margin to just two points at 16-14. That came on the heels of a Jenn Robbins’ layup with 12:27 remaining in the half.
The host took over at this point, however, opening a 17-point lead at the half at 43-26 and continuing to add to the amount in the second stanza.
Oswego will try to rebound at 1 p.m. Saturday by closing out the tournament with a contest with Juniata College.
