Barbara Moulton, 67, of Phoenix, passed away Thursday at her home with her family at her side.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she lived in Phoenix for the past 36 years. She graduated from Ambler High School in 1959 and Penn State University in 1963. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years.
For the past 20 years, she had her own business, Balloons a la Carte. She was known as the “Balloonatic” and brought smiles and laughter to everyone she met, family members said.
Moulton was the director of Christian education at the Congregational Church of Phoenix and, more recently, was involved in the Youth programs and Sunday school program at the Phoenix Methodist Church. Her goal in life was to help children of all faiths and backgrounds, family says. She recently began a Community Children’s Ministry. Her motto was “one child at a time.”
In 1987, Moulton was one of the first recipients of the Woman of the Year award. She also received the General Douglas MacArthur youth Award from the Masonic Lodge for exemplary service to the youth of New York State.
Moulton is survived by her husband of 43 yeras, David Moulton; her daughter, Kate Nafy and her husband Alex of Butler, NJ; two sons, Bill Moulton of Phoenix and Andrew Moulton and his wife Leslie of Jersey City, NJ; two granddaughters, Emma and Betsy Nafz; a sister, Dona McGlone and her husband Michael of Norristown, PA; and her eight nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Phoenix United Methodist Church, 49 Jefferson St. Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.
