Donald “Beau” C. Beauchene, 77, a resident of 245 East 12th St., Oswego, passed away, Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 after injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Amos and Clara (Grulich) Beauchene.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Kula Gulf.

Beau joined the Oswego Fire Department in 1956 under Mayor Shapiro, became Capt. in Aug. of 1969 by Mayor Conway and provisional Deputy Chief/Training Officer on Nov. 16, 1974 by Mayor Lazarek. He was appointed permanent Deputy Chief April 9, 1977 and Chief of the Department on Sept. 1, 1977 by Mayor Fitzgibbons. He served as Fire Chief for 13 years until his retirement on April 1, 1990 serving three mayors, Fitzgibbons, Cahill and Sullivan.

Beau enjoyed traveling and golfing. He was a member of the Oswego Country Club and a former member of the Oswego Masonic Lodge. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoyed breakfast with his friends at McDonalds and the Ritz Diner.

Surviving is his life partner of 27 years, Elizabeth A. Pecora of Oswego; two daughters, Judy (Philip) Mooney of Oswego and Kathleen (Frank) Direnna of Ohio; two brothers, Floyd “Shorty” Beauchene of Mesa, Arizona and David Beauchene of Port Richie, Florida; one sister, Geraldine Madden of Oswego; ten grandchildren, Michael Mooney, MaryKate Mooney, Maggie Mooney, Sean Mooney, Julia DiRenna, Nicole Nelson, Anthony Pecora, Katherine Pecora, Matthew Pecora and Kristina Pecora. Several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Marcia Nelson, a brother, Gerald Beauchene, two sisters, Helen Lagoe and Louise Swanger.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church, Oswego.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego

Calling hours will be held 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
