OSWEGO, NY – Fred Tickle, 93, a resident of 226 E. Bridge St., died on August 1, 2008, at St. Luke Health Services, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Frederick and Phyllis (LaVere) Tickle.
He attended Oswego schools and was a graduate of Oswego High School.
He had been employed as the manager for the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Oswego, and worked for the company for more than 37 years.
Mr. Tickle was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and boating.
Trips to the Adirondack Mountains were a special part of his life.
He was, also, keenly interested in the fortunes of Syracuse University’s football and basketball teams.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, the former Rita Mitchell; two sons, William (Anne) Tickle of Clinton, and Patrick (Alyson Inman) Tickle of Oswego; three daughters, Linda Mills, Suzanne Russell, and Rita Tickle, all of Oswego; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Byrd.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church with burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Oswego Salvation Army.
