Thomas James Murphy “Turtle” “Raz”

OSWEGO COUNTY – Thomas James Murphy “Turtle” “Raz”, 72, of Phoenix, NY, passed away unexpectedly on December 23rd, 2024 after a battle with various illnesses. Born on July 11th, 1952 in Syracuse, NY to Shirley Dunn (Murphy) Polmanteer and Robert James “Turk” Murphy.

He is survived by his three daughters, Misty Murphy (Christie), Tiffany (Murphy) Kassin, Lindsey Murphy; five grandchildren, Gabriella, Akasia, Ian, Evan, and Isiah; four siblings, Michael Murphy (Donna Mills), Colleen Murphy, Maureen Murphy, and Robin Murphy (Lenny); Nieces, Jillian Murphy and Emma Woods; Nephew, Casey Murphy, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins. He is predeceased by his father Robert “Turk” Murphy and mother Shirley Dunn (Murphy) Polmanteer.

“Turtle” was a lifelong Boston Red Sox, Syracuse Orange, and Syracuse Skychiefs fan. He spent much of his life in the BAC Local 2 as a Mason. There was nothing he enjoyed more than attending a Syracuse football game with his father on a Saturday morning. He was social member of the VFW Post 5540 for a majority of his life and spent many years as Santa for their Christmas celebration.

“Raz” was a man of few words, but liked by all. You knew you got his attention when you got the eyebrow raise. He enjoyed singing to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Neil Diamond.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday January 2, 2025 in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a short service open to the public on Thursday January 2, 2025 at 7 p.m. Deacon Jeffrey Dean will officiate.

A burial & a celebration of life will happen in the spring 2025.

Friends and family are invited to attend the and share their memories of Thomas James Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, and as a recipient of an organ donation, Thomas asked that you please consider being an organ donor and/or a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Thomas Murphy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
