OSWEGO, NY – Daniel J. Stergius, 80, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Wednesday March 23, 2016, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late James and Katherine (Manfre) Stergius.
He attended Oswego schools and was a graduate of Oswego High School.
Dan played on the varsity football team where he excelled all four years.
He was rewarded for his exceptional play by making the Upstate first team once, second team once and honorable mention twice.
He was employed with the Cyclotherm Corporation and later retired from the Oswego County Department of Social Services.
Mr. Stergius was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany in the mid 1950s.
He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and coached Pop Warner Football.
He loved to play golf and bowl in the fall.
He was an avid collector of military memorabilia.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Maryanne Feeney; two daughters, Donna Mangano of Oswego and Joanne (Jim) Gatchell of Rotterdam; a brother, George Stergius of Oswego; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Lily Gatchell.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with a service to follow the hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia or a charity of choice.
