John F. ‘Bump’ Woods, 86

OSWEGO, NY – John F. “Bump” Woods, 86, a resident of 34 Gerritt St., passed away on Saturday Dec. 4, 2010, at University Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late William and Helen (Gibson) Woods.

He was a graduate of St. John’s School and Oswego High School.

He was employed with the N.Y. Telephone Company for more than 40 years.

“Bump” was an avid golfer and was a life member of the Oswego Country Club.

Mr. Woods was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.

He served with the 3rd Division Company E 15 Infantry in the European Theatre.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Surviving is his son, Kenneth Woods of Virginia.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances, on July 26, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.

Entombment will be in All Saint’s Mausoleum.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, CNY Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
