OSWEGO, NY – John (Jack) T. DeSantis, 79, son of the late Anthony and Lillian (Murray) DeSantis passed away on Saturday July 10, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Oswego on Aug. 29, 1930, and had attended Oswego schools.
Mr. DeSantis served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during the Korean Conflict.
Jack worked hard his whole life as a truck driver in the Oswego/Syracuse area, retiring from the Lake Shore Transportation in 1995.
He was a great and well liked person, faithful husband, dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
His clan has been forever blessed by having him at the helm.
He will be loved and missed forevermore.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Cook; his children, John (Jeannette) DeSantis Jr., Lori (Peter) Welsh, Cheryl (Doug) Beck all of Oswego; a brother, Richard DeSantis; a sister, Joan (Jack) Taber; grandchildren, Anthony (Becky), Jonathan (Jodene), Jamie (Ali), Billie (Brooke), Kimberly (Kevin), Katie (Steve), Karalyn, Yvonne (William), Samatha (Larry) Millie (Paul); 19 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Aidan, Seth, Ronan, Miles, Michael, Elijah, Josh, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Kaitlyn, Rachel, Jessica, Isabella, Kamryn, Lillian, Paige, Isabel and Douglas; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many, many life-long close friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Minetto.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Oncology Department at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.
