OSWEGO, NY – M. Suzanne “Sue” Cuppernull, 84, of Watertown NY, formerly of Oswego, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Summit Samaritan Village on Wednesday February 3, 2016, after a short illness.

Sue was born February 11, 1931, to the late Eunice (Duane) and Thomas Keefe of Oswego, where she lived most of her life.
After graduating as valedictorian of Oswego High School class of 1948, she continued her studies at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY.
During her career as a registered nurse, Sue worked for the Veterans’ Administration, SUNY Oswego Student Health Center and the Alcan Aluminum Corporation, retiring from Alcan in 1993.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Oswego and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watertown, NY.
Prior to moving to Watertown in 2014, Sue volunteered at Human Concerns of Oswego County and at the Oswego Public Library.
She was also active in the Girl Scouts, as well as in alumni activities for Oswego High School and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, camping and attending her grandchildren’s activities.
She spent her post retirement winters in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Sue is survived by George Cuppernull, her loving husband of 62 years; and their four children, Caren and Dr. Patrick Lanigan of Watertown, Michael and Jane Cuppernull of Cheshire, Conn., Mark and Judy Cuppernull of Southport, NC, and Christa and Peter Phillips of West Newbury, Mass.
She also leaves behind her sister, Patricia Keefe of Fayetteville, NY; a brother, Thomas Keefe of Scituate, Mass.; and nine beloved grandchildren, Brendan (fiancée Shelly Stearns), Timothy and Erin Lanigan, Catherine, Patrick, Ryan and Michael Cuppernull, and Thomas and Peter Cuppernull.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watertown.
Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego, at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are with the Dowdle Funeral Home, Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sue’s memory to St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, 206 Prospect Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13203.
