OSWEGO, NY – Mary Catherine (Shannon) Robarge, 88, of Oswego, passed away Wednesday November 28, 2012, at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
A native of and life resident of Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Harold “Spike and Mary (Hallihan) Shannon.
Mary was a graduate of Oswego High School and Oswego State University.
She was an elementary school teacher from 1949-1986, working for many years at the Philips Street School in Fulton and Volney Elementary School where she was the “best first grade teacher” from 1969 until her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Robarge was truly loved by all her students and staff.
Mary is survived by nephews, William (Mary) Shannon, Joseph (Linda) Shannon, John (Conlee) Shannon and Michael (Carol) Shannon; great-nieces and great-nephews, April Geers, Dana, Jacob (Asha), and Roger Shannon; a sister-in-law, Mona Shannon; cousins, Michael Parker, Carole (Carmen) Barbato, Jon Kirschner, Christopher (Darlene) Kirschner, Mark (Nora) Kirschner, Karen Chapman and Jack Hallihan.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Clarence (Honey) Robarge; and her brothers, Daniel and William “Spike” Shannon.
Mary always had a joke and quick wit with all her many friends and family.
She liked to travel, always had fun and lots of laughs.
She enjoyed spending her time with her friends from Vona’s Restaurant and the Ritz Dinner.
Mary was a communicant of St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s Catholic churches and was devoted to her Catholic faith by attending daily and weekend masses.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday morning from 9 -10:30.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church, 50 E. Mohawk St., Oswego, N.Y. 13126.
