Thomas G. Coffey, 88

OSWEGO, NY – Thomas G. Coffey, 88, a resident of 235 W. Fifth St., Oswego, passed away on Sunday Oct. 10, 2010, at University Hospital, Syracuse.

Born in Albion, NY, he was a son of the late Thomas and Charlotte (Smith) Coffey and was a graduate of the Albion High School, Class of 1939.

He received his master’s from the State University of Oswego.

Mr. Coffey retired as captain in infantry from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service.

He was a teacher at Margaret Cuyler Elementary School in Red Creek and later retired from Kingsford Park in 1986.

Thomas was a member of American Legion #1757 in Sackets Harbor, Elks #271 in Oswego, the NYS Retired Teachers and the Retired Officers Association.

Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine Metcalf of Oswego; four sons, Thomas (Terry) Coffey, Michael (Mary) Coffey, Matthew Coffey, Peter (Clionna) Coffey all of Oswego; a daughter, JoAnne (Joseph) Kapuscinski of Oswego; a sister, Eleanor Williams of Albion; a brother, Robert Coffey of Plant City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Mark in 1973; a sister, Patricia Dunham; and two brothers, John and David Coffey.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
