Bernice E. Whipple

PALERMO, NY – Bernice E. Whipple, 96, formerly of the Town of Palermo, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at St. Luke’s Health Care Facility in Oswego, NY.

She was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Doss) McGinley. During her long career, she had been employed at the Woolen Mills and the Nestle Company in Fulton, NY, General Electric in Syracuse, NY and the Phoenix School System.

While raising a family, she achieved a long-time goal of attending cosmetology school and opening Bernice’s Beauty Salon, a business she proudly owned and operated from her home prior to her retirement. This was her true passion and over the many years of operation, she built a large and loyal clientele base.

She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Benjamin, Ronald and Fredrick; and one sister, Charlotte.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of over 77 years, Wallace; two sons, Terry (Sharon) Whipple and Scott (Beth) Whipple, all of Phoenix, NY; and one daughter, Laurie (Ronnie) Grubbs of Virginia; four grandchildren, Sarah Lewis, Mackenzie (Jason) Collins, Heather (Brian) Butler and Bryan (Courtney) Whipple; and six great grandchildren, Ryan, Evan and Bryce Lewis and Ethan Delaney and Rory Collins; several nieces and nephews. Bernice was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt who will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY.
