Gaetano J. ‘Guy’ Vasta, 76

FULTON, NY – Gaetano J. “Guy” Vasta, 76, of Volney, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long illness.

A native of Fulton, he was a life resident of the Fulton-Volney area.

He was the son of the late Carmelo and Concetta Grasso Vasta.

Guy graduated from SUNY at Oswego, where he received a master’s degree in education.

Guy retired in 2003 from C. S. Driver Middle School in the Marcellus Central School District as a media specialist and librarian and had previously taught math and industrial arts at Auburn West High School.

Guy was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Fulton.

He owned and operated Guy’s Garden produce farm in Volney and served on the board of directors for the Syracuse Regional Market.

Guy enjoyed flying airplanes, sail boating, photography and snow skiing.

Surviving are his two sisters, Concetta Vasta of Volney and Mary (Michael) Konowich of Fulton; and many cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, at Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 910 Fay St., Fulton.

A prayer service will be 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at Holy Trinity Parish, corner of Rochester and South Third streets, Fulton.

Graveside services will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-9959.
