George Ashby, 76, of Fulton died Wednesday at Oswego Hospital.
Born in Fulton to the late Ashton and Hilda Ashby, he remained a life resident. George retired from Sealright in 1996 as a tow motor operator where he had worked for 25 years. George loved to collect baseball cards and coins. He had also umpired for softball leagues for many years.
He was predeceased by his son, George R. Ashby who died in 2004 and by a daughter, Carolee Ashby who died in 1968; brothers, Al, Dick, Fred, Robert and Frank Ashby; sisters, Charlotte, Lois, Kate and Maria;
Surviving: his wife of 57 years, Marlene Ashby; a daughter, Darlene (Larry) McCann of Phoenix; a son, Fred (Kathy) Ashby of Fulton; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Joan) Ashby of Redfield; sister, Lillian Murray; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Monday with a 4 p.m. service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. Burial will be at Mt. Adnah Cemetery. Â Contributions may be made to Special Needs Playground, 25 Lock Street, Phoenix, 13135.
