FULTON, NY – Gordon A. Wettering, 66, of Fulton, passed away peacefully Saturday evening January 26, 2013, at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Fulton on October 26, 1946, a son to the late, Gordon A. and Phyllis Dashnau Wettering.
Gordon graduated from Fulton High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served 26 years until he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991.
During that time, he served three tours of duty in Vietnam, he was in the communications field which had him and his family stationed throughout the world.
After his retirement from the Air Force, Gordon returned to Fulton and went to work for the Valley News, where he retired as the circulation manager in 2010.
Gordon was an active official for many years for several local sports organizations including leadership roles as the umpire in chief for the Fulton Softball Association and the Port City Umpires Association of Oswego.
He was the head assignor for the C.N.Y. High School Girls Fastpitch Softball League.
Gordon was also a key member of the C.N.Y. Volleyball Organization.
Gordon was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy Arnold Wettering; three sons, Gordon A. Wettering, Brian T. (Rachel) Wettering and Mark E. Wettering all of Fulton; five sisters, Lucy Wettering of Mexico, Michelle Wettering of Fulton, Denise Wettering of Fulton, Mary Wettering of Oswego and Gwen (Charles) Tyrell of Fulton; two brothers, Daniel Wettering of Fulton and Malcolm (Sheryl) Wettering of Fulton; one precious granddaughter, Katherine Ann Wettering; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.
Burial, with military honors, will be in the spring at Mount Adnah Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.
