Jefferson E. LaMont, Sr., 53

Jefferson E. LaMont, Sr., 53, of Hannibal, died Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Gouverneur, he was a 24 year resident of Hannibal. Jeff was a sixth grade teacher at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School in Hannibal where his love of the outdoors showed in his classroom with many animals, plants and items from nature. He was the modified wrestling coach, football coach and recently became the girls’ basketball coach.

Jeff was a member and the current president of the Hannibal Teachers Union. He was a co-founder of Klub KenMont at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School. Jeff was a well-respected teacher, coach and mentor to students throughout his many years in Hannibal. He was an avid outdoorsman loving animals and spending time with his children.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jack D. and Kathleen I. LaMont.

Surviving: three children, Vanessa L. Gates, Amberlyn D. LaMont and Jefferson E. LaMont, Jr. all of Hannibal; two more he would be proud to call his own, Sibel E. Gunukutlu and Edward C. Goritski; two brothers, Michael A. LaMont of Antwerp and Patrick O. LaMont Cicero; his little buddy, Dyl Buske; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School, Gymnasium, 846 Cayuga Street, Hannibal where the family requests casual purple and white attire be worn.
