Joseph A. Galletta Sr., 86, of Fulton passed away peacefully at his home amidst his loving family on Saturday, September 24th.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Joseph was born in Oswego, NY, to Anthony and Frances Galletta, as one of six brothers and sisters: John, Angelo, Mario, Mary (Lapetino) and Frances (Archambo).

He engaged in farming during high school years and was a machinist at the Marathon Machine Shop. Joseph joined the US Army, Company B, 21st Infantry to become a paratrooper in the South Pacific Theater during WWII.

Joseph was the proprietor of West Side Hardware for 50 years, which eventually became a landmark business in the City of Fulton. Another life achievement, Joseph attained his private pilot license with thousands of flight hours.

He also loved gardening and being surrounded by the fun fellowship of his ever growing family.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine Valelunga Galletta; children, Ann (John) Schaefer, Kathleen (Terry) Kinney, Nancy (James) Falanga, and Joseph Jr. (Shona) Galletta, his brother, Mario, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many community friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church, corner of S. Third and Buffalo Sts., Fulton. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.
