David  R. Jennings

OSWEGO – David  R. Jennings, 80, of Oswego, was called back to God on September 21, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 31, 1944, in Syracuse, he was the son of the late William F. and Blanche (Himes) Jennings. David served in the US Army from June 1963  to May 1969 with the 82nd Airborne Division. He worked as a  Master Machinist/Engineer for over 40 years.  He worked for Industrial Precision of Oswego NY, the DOD  at Gatun Locks Panama Canal, Naval Base Apra Harbor Guam,  Griffis Airforce Base Rome NY, and the Marine Corps Air Station in North Carolina. He has several patents and worked on various research and development projects for the Department of Defense and  Syracuse University.He was a devoted and loving husband.  A patient, caring, generous, and kind-hearted friend and father.

David had a spiritual soul. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and loved to play along with his harmonica, drums, and bongos. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family around a bonfire contemplating the mysteries of the universe and sharing stories. He was an avid reader, highly skilled artistic woodworker, musician, and inventor.

He supported many causes and charities including the Salvation Army, Boys Club of America, Audubon Society St. Jude’s, and others.

Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Eladia Batista-Munoz Jennings and seven children Susy Gatte of Florida, Sharon (Rick) Uribe of Florida, Brenda (Chris) Burritt of Oswego, Adam Jennings of Oswego, Deluvina (Jerry) Blum of Oswego, Brent Jennings (Courtney Merriman)of Utica and Elaine(Jack) Lee of Oswego.  He also leaves behind his sister Nancy Jennings and 14 grandchildren Joshua, Ricky, Merric, Jacob, Matthew, Tyler, Eric, Jack, Kevin, Nathan, Tommy, Autumn, Blake, Noladia and, 3 great-grandchildren Jayce, Liam, and Logan.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings Bob, Bill, Tommy, Richard, Lorna, Patty, Jane, Janet, Bebe, and his grandson Joshua Uribe.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lighthouse Mexico Church 11 S Jefferson St.  Mexico, NY at 4:00 on Friday, September 27.  Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery at a later date to be announced.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
