Donald V. Saylor

OSWEGO – Donald V. Saylor, 78, of Oswego passed on May 27, 2020.

Born and raised in Oswego, he was the son of the late Irvin and Virginia (Tesoriero) Saylor.

Donald attended elementary school at St. Paul’s Academy and was a graduate of Bishop Cunningham Catholic High School.  He was a proud veteran who served for both the United States Navy and Army.  Donald served on the USS Intrepid for the Navy and then later in Vietnam for the Army. He was employed as a laborer for the Local 214. 

Don was a devout Christian, and he had a special love for the Blessed Mother and praying the rosary.  He had a deep devotion to St. John’s Church and then later St. Joseph’s.  He loved sports and was a huge Yankee fan.  Don also enjoyed picnics at camp and hunting. Donald was a very generous and caring person, and he will be missed by many.

Donald is survived by his loving sister, Roberta Reitano of Oswego; his sister in law Mary Saylor of Oswego; nieces and nephew Ginny Reitano, Francis Reitano, and Theresa Robinson; and several great-nieces and nephews Kevin Robinson, Mackenzie Robinson, Grace Reitano, Isabella Reitano, Cole Reitano, Mason Reitano, and Natalie Reitano.

In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his brother, David Saylor.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church and entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald’s name to Wounded Warriors, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate[1]  Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society, www.nmcrs.org › donate[2] or Puppies Behind Bars, puppiesbehindbars.com[3].  Donald’s arrangements are in the care of Nelson Funeral Home.
