Harvey A. Fadden

OSWEGO – On May 1, 2025, Harvey A. Fadden, 81, passed away peacefully at home after a very long battle with the consequences of a broken hip.

A lifelong resident of Oswego, Harvey graduated from Oswego City Schools and SUNY Maritime College with a degree in Marine Engineering and a commission as LTJG in the US Navy.  Upon graduation, he fulfilled his Navy commission with Texaco on their oil tankers. He spent his professional career at the Niagara Mohawk Steam Station as a shift supervisor and Covanta Energy in Syracuse, NY.

Not one to sit still for long, Harvey spent many hours after retirement working and volunteering at the Oswego and Fulton YMCAs.

Harvey married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) LoSurdo, whom he lovingly called Lizzie, on June 22, 1974. He is also survived by his daughter Sarah and her husband Ryan Mackridge, his son Jeremy Fadden, his brother and sister-in-law John and Fran Fadden, and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Fadden, plus several nieces and nephews.

Harvey was the loving Poppy to his grandchildren, Duncan, Quinn, Wren, and Ivy Mackridge, the real joys of his life.

He loved cats and dogs, building bird houses, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and SU basketball and football.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Thusa M. and Fremont F. Fadden, his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Joe Speiser, and his brother Thomas Fadden.

The Fadden family would like to thank the staff of Oswego Health Home Care for their wonderful care while in his home, the staff of the Oswego Hospital on the 4th floor, and especially the staff in the guided imagery department for their many kindnesses.

Memorial donations may be made in Harvey’s name to the Harvey and Betty Fadden Endowment or the Quinn Mackridge Family Support Fund at Galisano Children’s Hospital. Both can be mailed to The Upstate Foundation, 750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no services.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
