OSWEGO – John M. Joyce, 70, of Oswego, NY, passed away peacefully, on May 20, 2026, leaving behind a defining legacy of a generous, giving heart and a deep loyalty and dedication to his family and all aspects of the family businesses.

Born in Oswego to William G. Joyce Sr. and the late Nannette D. (Davies) Joyce, his roots ran deep into the local community. A proud alumnus of Oswego High School and a former dedicated altar boy, John later channeled his formidable drive into family owned and operated businesses of Oswego Stevedoring and Trucking Company, Lakeshore Transportation Lines, Oswego Warehousing and Trucking Company, and Laser Transit Inc., which were foundational family enterprises where his instinctive leadership and uncompromising work ethic left an indelible mark. John was a simple man with an enormous heart, most known for his incredible sense of humor and his truly selfless nature. He lived life on his own terms with a wonderful wit and a fun-loving spirit; he was always happiest when pulling a clever prank or sharing a good joke to bring laughter to those he loved. John had a natural way of looking out for others, always willing to open his door or lend a helping hand to anyone in need without a second thought. He will always be remembered for his kind, giving spirit and the genuine warmth and joy he brought into the lives of everyone around him.

John is survived by his loving daughters and their families: his daughter, Heather Joyce-Waters, and her husband, Ian Waters; and his daughter Kristy Joyce, and her husband, Dr. David Brough of North Carolina. He was the proud grandfather of Tyler, Jordan, and Dylan; and the deeply loved great-grandfather of Kawai, Kayden, and Kai Joyce. Known for his generous heart, John also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Jessica Kelly (Jeffery) and Ashley Saranno (Al), their children, Nevaeh, Flora, and Apollo, to whom he was a beloved figure. He also leaves behind his father, William G. Joyce Sr. of Sterling; his brother, George (Christine) Joyce of Sterling; and his sisters, Nannette M. Joyce and Cynthia (Michael) Hagenmayer; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nannette D. Joyce, and siblings, William Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Joyce.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 30th, at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and Shrine, 105 West 7th Street in Oswego.
