MINETTO, NY – Reuel A. “Moe” Todd, 75, of Minetto passed away on August 31 at home with his family by his side. Moe was born in Oswego to the late Donald and June (Peavey) Todd.
Moe retired from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department in 2018 after a 44 1/2 year career. Early in his life, he worked at Rudy’s Drive-In and later owned and operated Mimi’s Restaurant in Oswego. He joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1974 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1977 and in the same year promoted to Criminal Investigator by former Sheriff Ray Chesbro. In 1984 he was appointed by former Sheriff Charles Nellis to be his Undersheriff. Moe was elected Sheriff in 1998 and served until his retirement. During his career he attended numerous schools and training and graduated from the FBI NAA at Quantico, VA in 1992.
Moe loved to hunt with his son and dear friends, Art and Gene. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. In is younger days, he played men’s fast pitch softball, basketball and was on several bowling leagues. Moe also enjoyed his trips to the casino. He was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Syracuse basketball. For years, he looked forward to his twice a week poker games with his good friends.
Moe was active in the community and coached boys senior league and women’s softball, was a member of the Elks, Fraternal Order of Police, and Sheriff’s Benevolent Association. Moe was always the first one to lend a hand to anyone in need. He is a member of the NYS Sheriff’s Association and served as President and was on the Executive Committee.
Moe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Valerie (Clark), his son Michael (Kathleen) of Syracuse and his daughter Jolene (Nicki Fratangelo) of Liverpool, his granddaughters, Kaitlynn Todd of South Carolina, Gabrielle LoCurto of North Carolina, Alex LoCurto of Syracuse, his sisters Judith Southworth of Oswego, Rita Scruton of Nevada, his brothers Donald (Terry) of Arizona, George of Scriba, Robert of Mexico and Ronald of Oswego and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to the ALS Association of Upstate New York, the ALS Clinic at SUNY Upstate Medical University, the 5th floor nursing staff at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and to Hospice of Central New York.
Calling hours will be held 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany Street.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the 1st United Methodist Church, 7111 State Route 104, Oswego.
