Stanley Delia

OSWEGO – Stanley Delia, 77, of Oswego, New York, passed away on Sunday, September 14, surrounded by his family.

Born on August 17, 1948, in Oswego, he was the son of the late Espedito and Stella (Polczak) Delia. A lifelong resident of Oswego, Stanley was a proud graduate of Oswego Catholic High School and SUNY Oswego.

Stanley had a respected career in insurance and finance and was a small business owner prior to that. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977. Dedicated to his community, he served on the Oswego City School District Board of Education from 1994-2005, including two terms as Board President. He also volunteered with several local organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Oswego, where he served as president, and as a board member of the Port Authority of Oswego. He was a proud dual citizen of the United States and Malta.

An avid distance runner, Stanley completed 35 marathons, including the Boston Marathon 16 times. He loved the discipline and joy of running, and in later years found happiness in walking and staying active.

Stanley cherished his family. He was married to the late Patricia Delia for 46 years, and together they raised four children: Abby (Josh) Molinari, Ben (Sarah) Delia, Bonnie Delia, and Liz (Steve) Delia. He also adored his granddaughter, Primrose Molinari, who brought him tremendous joy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Frank and Vincenza. He is survived by his sister, Dolores.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish & Shrine, 103 W. 7th St., Oswego, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boston Athletic Association or to one of the charity partners of the Boston Marathon in Stanley’s memory. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
