OSWEGO, NY – Bartholomew G. Gentile Sr., 84, loving husband and father, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at his home on Gregory Street in Oswego, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Gentile was born in Oswego, the son of the late John and Jane (DeSantis) Gentile.
He was a life resident.
Mr. Gentile was a veteran of World War II, and served in the Merchant Marines.
He fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was the owner and operator of Gentile’s Camera Shop, which served Oswego for 50 years.
He served the as the Fifth Ward alderman from 1960 to 1968, and was the Oswego City Clerk from 1969 to 1975.
He ran for mayor of Oswego as the Democratic candidate in 1973.
Mr. Gentile was a member of the DA Lodge, the Kiwanis Club, and the Oswego Country Club.
He served as city chairman of the March of Dimes campaign.
He was an avid boater and fisherman.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine (Pryor) Gentile; two daughters, Pamela (Eric) Dean of Canton, Mich., and Susan (John) Deary of Oswego; a son, Bartholomew Gentile Jr. of Oswego; a brother, Thomas (Pat) Gentile of Oswego; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, and Katie Gallagher and Jessica and Geoffrey Dean; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Joseph’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St. in Oswego.
