Betty Jane (Smith) Thompson, 87, of 331 Thompson Road, Oswego, died at her home on Friday, the 4th of February.
Born in 1923 to Ida and Zillwood Smith, Betty was a life-long resident of the Oswego area. She attended Minetto School and was a tax collector for the Town of Oswego. Betty was also a member of The Salvation Army. Betty and her husband, Edward, were married for 56 years before his passing in 1997. Together they raised three children and began their mobile home business, Thompson Sales.
Betty and Ed were avid travelers’ often bringing their grandchildren on trips in their motor home to places like Disney World, Hershey Park, and Jelly Stone Park. They also enjoyed going on cruises.
Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. With her creative nature, amazing cooking, and loving personality, she made every special occasion even more memorable for her family. Betty is survived by her children, Lorraine Pratt of Oswego, Edward Thompson, of Oswego, and Deborah (Dick) Boyea of North Carolina, her eight grandchildren, Richard (Lynne) Pratt, Ronald (Tanya) Pratt, Randall (Penny) Pratt, Laurie (George) Krul, and R. Jason (Terri) Pratt, all of Oswego, Holly (Michael Taylor) Thompson of Manlius, Congetta (Rob) Cole of Oswego, Gina (Michael) Severn of North Carolina, and her seventeen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Killenbec, of Syracuse, and her brother, George Smith, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward, her brother Malcolm Smith, her sister, Martha Haas, and her son – in – law, Richard Pratt.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4pm. and 6 to 8pm. at Nelson’s Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 11am at Nelson’s Funeral Home.
