Catherine G. ‘Gen’ Smegelsky

OSWEGO, NY – Catherine G. “Gen” Smegelsky, 84, and a longtime resident of Liverpool, passed away Friday evening in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
She was born in Oswego and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Doyle Trowell and adopted and raised by John and Katherine Smegelsky.
She had been employed for many years at Dietz Lantern Co.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Pat) Virginia of Warners; three sons, William (Lauri) Smegelsky of Webster, John “Ben” Smegelsky of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and James (JoAnn) Smegelsky of Oswego; one brother, Rev. John Smegelsky of Oswego; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two children, Susan Cook, in 1984, and Frank Smegelsky, in 2010; and a dear friend, Harold Chatterton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday at the home of Rev. John Smegelsky 187 ½ W. Seventh St., Oswego.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
