Written by Chip Corbett.

On October 28, 2011 Charles F. “Chip” Corbett, 67, life resident of Scriba, departed to finally see the face of God, and be welcomed into the arms of his wife for their final journey together. Barbara was able to leave on this adventure in October of 2009, but due to earthly circumstances, Chip had to remain here until today. During their time together here, they were fortunate to be able to enjoy much of our great country by motor home and motorcycle.
Together for almost fifty years, they were to be blessed with four children; Valerie (Joe) Raffa, Scott (Peggy) Corbett, Joe (Tammy) Corbett, and Ginny (Warren) Vandish, who presented them with eleven grandchildren and four (soon to be six) great-grandchildren.
Chip was the proprietor of Chip’s Collision for forty-five years. During this period he was able to help preserve several vintage cars and motorcycles for future generations, as well as maintaining more modern vehicles. In earlier years he was also a private pilot.
Although he enjoyed many things in life, his family brought him the most satisfaction. He considered himself a “professional grandfather” and tried to set an example for all the grandkids. He and Barbara will be patiently waiting for all of their family to be reunited in Heaven.
Surviving, besides his children, are his eleven grandchildren, Patricia (Brad) Taylor, Capt. USAF Joe (Angela) Raffa, Nicolas Raffa, Jared (Leah) Raffa, Kristen Corbett, Aaron Corbett, Brett Corbett, Alida Ann Corbett, Caleb Joseph Corbett, Lindsey Rose Vandish and Emily Rose Vandish; a sister, Judy (Doug) Smith; four great-grandsons, Isaiah Taylor, Gideon Taylor Uriah Taylor and Joseph Anthony Raffa Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Patricia Whaley.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Tuesday, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2819 Co Rt. 45, Fulton. Burial will be in North Scriba Union Cemetery.
You may honor Chip’s memory by making a donation to the local Salvation Army or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
