David J. Goewey, 70

David J. Goewey, 70, a resident of Helen St. Oswego, passed away January 25, 2011 at the Oswego Hospital.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late David and Margaret (Mullen) Goewey.
David was owner and operator of Greenman’s Gardens for over 6 years. He also was employed for Miller Brewery, Columbia Mills and drove cab for Zellers Taxi.
He was a member of the Elks #271 and Oswego County Visually Impaired. He was an avid sports fan especially the Yankee’s.
David enjoyed his time at camp and during the holidays dressing up and playing Santa for the children. He served as camp counselor and instructor at Camp Hollis for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly (Ruttan) Goewey, four daughters, Judith (David) King of Oswego; Linda (Harry) Purt of Oswego; Janet Knopp and Daniel Golas of Albany; Donna Jackson of Oswego; two sons, Frederick Knopp and Tom Bliek and David (Judi) Knopp, both of Oswego; fifteen grandchildren, Stephanie King, Leandra King, Gregory King, Stephen King, Matthew Purt, Jason Purt, Nicholas Purt, Kali Purt, Alexandra Jackson, Audrey Jackson, Austin Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Jenna Golas, Heather Curran and David Knopp; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Gunther and a grandchild, Erika Purt.
Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. Friday at the Church of the Resurrection. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oswego County Visually Impaired, C/O Laura Smith, 198 East Albany St. Apt. 4D, Oswego.
