OSWEGO, NY – Eugene W. Dorman, 56, a resident of East 11th Street in Oswego, passed away Tuesday July 10, 2012, at his home.
Gene was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Columbus, Ohio.
He was the son of the late Thurl and Ruth (White) Garrettson.
He had lived in Oswego for 22 years.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving his country from 1973 to 1980.
Gene had been employed as a Nuclear Licensing Specialist with Entergy Nuclear Northeast.
He was a member of the Oswego Alliance Church.
Gene loved to help people, and loved to feed people.
He was a volunteer as Santa Claus at the Syracuse Rescue Mission for several years and catered a multitude of local weddings and work events.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen (Yarbrough) Dorman of Oswego; a son, Joshua Dorman of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Robert (Roberta) Hoersdig of Columbus, Ohio, and Steve (Grace) Hoersdig of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Natalie (Don) Walden of Gahanna, Ohio and Virginia (Bill) Marshall of Gahanna, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and his friend and constant companion, his dog, Heaven.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oswego Alliance Church on Thompson Road in the Town of Oswego, with a lunch reception following the service.
There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are in care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Oswego.
