OSWEGO, NY – Francis H. Carson, 75, died Monday February 15, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born and raised in Oswego and was the son of the late Francis Carson and Catherine Donohue.
He was a distinguished businessman and co-owner with his brother, Paul Carson, of the “famous” Carson’s News, where everyone knew his name.
Customers can attest to his dedication, hard work, and he loved being around his customers.
The infamous “Carson Gang,” and you know who you are, gave him many trials and tribulations. But, he remembers each and every one of you and wouldn’t trade those times for the world.
His love of his customers and the pride he had maintaining the business his grandparents had started, was just the tip of the husband, father, sibling, grandfather and great-grandfather he was.
The memories of his life in Carson’s News and stories he shared brought great joy and happiness too many.
One of his passions was auto racing. He loved cars and racing!
He ran a concession stand at the Oswego Speedway where popcorn and peanuts became a weekly adventure for him and the “Carson Gang.”
Even his love for driver Nolan Swift, while he may not have watched many races, he felt close enough just being there.
NASCAR was not far behind cheering for his favorite driver Jeff Gordon.
At the house we secretly cheered for our own driver, but at Pop Pop’s house it was Jeff Gordon all the way!
His life was so full of accomplishments.
His business at Carson’s News, but also as an employee of Niagara Mohawk where he retired from as a maintenance foreman.
He knew the importance of hard work and had high expectations not only for himself but for those who worked for him.
His family was his world.
He always beamed at the wonderful successes of each of his children and grandchildren.
There was nothing more he loved than spending time with each of them.
He loved music and he loved it loud.
Bob Segar – “Like a Rock,” ” Night Moves” and his “Old Time Rock and Roll” sneaking his cookies, loving the sweets while grooving to his favorite tunes could be heard throughout the house.
As he struggled with Parkinson’s and crippling arthritis, he always managed to put forth such strength and determination and his sense of humor was always ever present right to the end.
It gave us such joy knowing he knew us and could be with us up to the end.
Francis was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Metcalf (Robert); a sister, Sally Maher (Robert); and a grandson, Ryan Carson.
He is survived by the one and only true love of his life, Patricia Ann Carson (Bailey); his brother, Paul Carson (Bobbie Jean); his children, Catherine Kelly (Timothy), son, Francis Carson (AnnMarie), son, Jeff Carson and Jill Familo, daughter-in-law, Cathleen Gunther Carson, son Mark Carson and Christina Wilson, son, Christopher Carson (Michelle), and a daughter Cimberly Jones (Christopher).
He was also the proud grandpa of 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Francis Carson’s life will take place at Nelson’s Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Michael J Fox research for Parkinson’s. www.michaeljfox.org
