James H. Becksted, 77

OSWEGO, NY – James H. Becksted, 77, a resident of Oswego Town, passed away Monday November 9, 2015, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late William and Cecilia (Ford) Becksted.

He was a US Army veteran having served with the 82nd and 101st Airborne.

He was chosen to march in the inauguration of President Eisenhower.

He retired as tower foreman for Armstrong World Industries in 1996 after 38 years.

Jim was a hobby farmer, he raised cattle, had a vegetable garden and canning.

He worked the Annual Fall Grain Harvest in Nebraska for the past 15 years.

He was a member of the Lake City Lodge # 127 for more than 50 years.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lucille (Barlow) Becksted; a daughter, Mechelle (Wayne) Williams, of Central City, Nebraska; two sons, Stephen Becksted of Oswego and Mark (Patty) Becksted of Christiansburg, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Barlow; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, William Becksted, Paul Becksted, John Becksted, Margarite Horan and Elizabeth Brown.

Services will be held privately.
