Joseph F. Sereno, 78

Joseph F. Sereno, 78 and a resident of 56 West Mohawk St. Oswego passed away Thursday evening at Upstate Medical University.

Mr. Sereno was born in Oswego and was the son of the late James and Nancy Porcari Sereno. He was the husband of Eleanor DiMiero Sereno.

He was educated in Oswego schools and graduated from S.U.N.Y. Oswego in 1958.

Mr. Sereno had been employed as an elementary education teacher in the Central Square Schools District for 32 years, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Sereno was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a Life Member of the Oswego Elk’s Lodge. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 268 and served in the US Army.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter Beth (Bill) Schickling of Oswego, three sisters Connie Salisbury of Minetto, Virginia Wahrendorf and Helen Babcock both of Oswego, two grandchildren Joey Schickling and Mariel Schickling, a son in-law James Zak of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sereno was predeceased by a daughter Jude Zak, five brothers Matthew Sereno, Michael Sereno, Nicholas Porcari, Jasper Sereno and James Sereno.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 8:30AM from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 9:00AM in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 4-7PM at the funeral Home.
