Lucille M. O’Connor, 86

OSWEGO, NY – Lucille M. O’Connor, 86, of Oswego, passed away on Sunday February 21, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by her loving daughters and family members.

Born in Oswego Town, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Nellie (Flack) Dunsmoor.

She worked for Sealright Company for 17 years and also for Seal King for several years.

In 1964 Lucille and her husband, Harold O’Connor, owned and operated the Hannibal Hotel for 22 years.

The last ten years on her own as Harold had passed away in 1978.

Lucille put on many banquets, wedding receptions, and her famous Friday night fish dinners to the delight of her loyal customers.

Lucille was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She also belonged to the Legion of Mary and the Altar Rosary Society.

She worked many church dinners to help make them a success.

Our mother enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as cooking and cleaning.

She always wanted to make sure everyone had enough to eat.

If you were visiting our mom, you were sure to not go away hungry even if you weren’t hungry when you arrived.

Our mother left her family quite a legacy to follow.

She always showed so much thoughtfulness and kindness to everyone.

Our mom was beautiful inside and out and will be forever missed in our hearts as each day passes.

Lucille is survived by her five loving daughters whom she loved dearly, Patricia Lowden, Judith Walsh (William), Donna Simmons (Bob Ford), Janice Scott (Alan) and Marcia O’Connor (Ed Wavle); grandchildren, Timothy Lowden, Michelle Hopp, Jennifer Walsh, Jonathan and Erin Simmons, Shaun O’Connor and Jason, Ryan and Tara Scott; great-grandchildren, Connor, Katelyn, Lucy, Jameson and Matteo.

Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Harold L. O’Connor, in 1978; son-in-law, Rick Lowden; sister, Irene Barker; brothers, Clinton, Bud, Ross and Richard Dunsmoor.

She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Katie Dunsmoor, Lorraine Waldron, Buffy Moshier, Ernie Allen and Cynthia Hirsch; several nieces and nephews; and longtime dear friend, Dr. Sylvio Albert.

Calling hours will be held from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Ablany St., Oswego.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church.

Spring burial will be held in Hannibal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of the Rosary, 923 Cayuga St., Hannibal, NY 13074, or charities of one’s choice.
