Marjorie Guernsey, 83

OSWEGO, NY – Marjorie Guernsey, 83, a resident of Hobe Sound, Fla., and a former resident of Oswego, NY, died Wednesday Oct. 10, 2012, at Martin Medical Center in Stuart, FLa.

Mrs. Guernsey was born in Buffalo, NY, on June 21, 1929, the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (Millier) Shaw.

She lived in Oswego for many years before moving to Florida 20 years ago.

She was a graduate of the Rochester Business School Institute.

Before retirement, she was a board member and comptroller of Oswego County Savings Bank in Oswego.

Mrs. Guernsey was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stuart, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was a former communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Oswego.

She was a president of the Oswego Chapter of Zonta International, member of N.Y. State Women Bankers Association, treasurer of the Council of Catholic Women and a volunteer at the Carpenter’s Kitchen.

She belonged to the Ladies of the Preserve of Hobe Sound.

She enjoyed travelling, visiting places throughout the United States, as well as France, Spain and Ireland.

She loved playing cards, and being with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Laura (Benjamin) Davis of Carthage, NY, Janet Siembor of Syracuse, NY and Kathleen A. Rushmore of Hobe Sound; sons, Robert F. (Christina Aarne) Guernsey Jr. of Fulton, NY, Michael R. (Yuri Aikyo) Guernsey of Brewerton, NY and Thomas P. (Lisa Chase) Guernsey of Fulton; sister, Patricia (John) Cooney of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; brothers, Francis J. (Mildred) Shaw of Pittsboro, NC and James E. (Audrey) Shaw of Moravia, NY; 13 grandchildren, Sara (Keith) Dean, Derek Davis, Robert Guernsey III, Heather (Jason) Butler, David Siembor, Kevin Siembor, Jennifer Hall, Shane Guernsey, Jason Rushmore, Peter Rushmore, Sarah Therrien, Austin (Judith) Davis and Kevin Davis; six great-grandchildren, Luke Butler, Hailey Butler, Chelsea Davis, Brianah Lane, Spencer Therrien and Cooper Therrien; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert F. Guernsey Sr., who died in 1995.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Guernsey’s honor may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 103 W. Seventh St., Oswego, NY 13126; or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1200 E. 10th St., Stuart, Fla. 34996.
