Vera (Jean) Fitzgerald, 86, a resident of Pontiac Terrace Apartments, passed away March 28, 2011 at home.
Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Della (Sara Dalphine) Hurst Johnson.
Jean had worked several jobs over the years before retiring from Joe’s Tavern.
She was a volunteer for the Oswego Harborfest for 12 years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church. She was also an avid bridge player and a member of Oswego County Bridge Association.
Surviving are three daughters, Maureen (Ian) Wills, Elizabeth Yoder, and Margaret Serrano, all of Oswego; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth (Way) Johnson and Harold Johnson, and a surrogate daughter, Charlotte Sullivan.
Funeral Services will be held at 10a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Restoration Fund.
