Jeffery Gorton, 76

FULTON, NY – Jeffery Gorton, 76, of Fulton, passed away Saturday January 16, 2016, at Oswego Hospital.

He was born in Fulton to the late Philip and Agnes (Plumber) Gorton.

Mr. Gorton remained a lifetime resident of Fulton.

He was a graduate of Fulton High School, where he was a varsity letterman in football, basketball and baseball.

Mr. Gorton received a scholarship to play football at Ithaca College.

He transferred home to Oswego State University when his dad passed.

He was a team member of the Oswego State University 1960 Division III Championship Basketball Team.

Mr. Gorton graduated Oswego State University with both a Bachelor and Master Degree and then he continued his studies and received a Certificate of Administration.

He later retired from the education system after working as a history teacher and vice principal for Emerson J. Dillon Middle School, Phoenix School District, Phoenix, and principal with Pennellville School District and Elm Street School, Phoenix.

Mr. Gorton was also a past athletic director at the Fulton YMCA.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helaine Gorton, in June 2013.

Mr. Gorton is survived by his three children: Michael Gorton of Fulton, David (Kim) Gorton of Volney and Christopher (Lauren) Gorton of Longwood, Fla.; two sisters: Rosemary Scott and Glenda (Joe) Abbate both of Fulton; two grandchildren: Hunter Gorton of California and Tanner (Kassidy) Gorton of Fulton; great-grandchild, Briella Gorton; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.
