Roy Loomis, 86

FULTON, NY –  Roy Loomis, 86, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday June 20, 2019, at his daughter’s home in New Haven, NY, surrounded by his devoted family.

He was born in Marietta, NY, to the late Perry and Mary (Grennell) Loomis Sr.

He had been a resident of Fulton for most of his life.

Mr. Loomis was a United States veteran having served as a private first class in the Army overseas for one tour of duty during the Korean War from 1952-1954.

He worked in construction as a pipe-layer with Pepper Bros Construction, Syracuse, NY, Santaro Construction, Syracuse, NY, and Congel Construction, Syracuse, NY, and later retired as a cleaner with the Fulton City School District.

Mr. Loomis was a past member of the Fulton V.F.W. Post #569.

He loved camping and took great pride in how his lawn was tended.

Mr. Loomis was a devoted family man and enjoyed every minute of time spent with each member of his family.

Mr. Loomis was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette C. Loomis, in 2015; great-grandson, Jonathon VanSanford; and brother-in-law, Paul Leonard.

He is lovingly survived by his daughters: Lisa (David) Van Sanford of Oswego and Laurie (Donald) Barton of Oswego; two siblings: Perry (Rhea) Loomis Jr. of Pennsylvania, and Helen Leonard of Amber, NY; five grandchildren: David S. VanSanford, Alesia (Daniel) Wright, Christopher (Kelly) VanSanford, Steven (Carolyn) Hartle and Brandon (Natasha) VanSanford; nine great-grandchildren: Cody, Carter, Trevor, Cooper, Kena, Liam, Cadence, Kahlan and Keegan; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Loomis also leaves his companion, Pikachu.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with military honors to follow bestowed by the NYS Military Honor Guard.
