Salvatore ‘Sam’ Firenze, 92

FULTON, NY – Salvatore “Sam” Firenze, 92, formerly of Fulton, and Annapolis, Md., passed away peacefully on Thursday morning June 1, 2017, at his son’s home in Clay, NY.

Mr. Firenze was born in Fulton, to the late Richard and Mary (Amico) Firenze.

He was a United States veteran having served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Firenze retired in 1983 from Niagara Mohawk where he worked for several years as a line supervisor.

He was an umpire and sports referee.

Mr. Firenze was very involved with the success of the Fulton Gauchos and the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum Corps.

He was predeceased by his son, David Firenze, in 1994; and siblings, Grace Raneri, Carmella Barnett Virginia Carioti Anthony and Paul Firenze.

Mr. Firenze is survived by his children: Kathy Firenze of Florida, Mary Beth (Chuck) Modzelewski of Hamlin, NY, Samuel (Stephanie) Firenze of Colorado and James (Kristine) Firenze of Clay.

He is also survived by his longtime partner, Rose Rivera of Maryland and her children, Debra (Curt) Weinhold, Janice (Peter) Halverson and Denise Rivera; and his 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton, with Rev. John Canorro officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, or the Alzheimer Association.
