OSWEGO, NY – Joyce C. MacDonald, 79, a resident of Harbour House in Oswego, and also a winter resident of Venice, Fla., died on Aug. 5, 2008, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy (Dennis) Campbell.

She was a graduate of St. Paul’s Academy, Oswego High School, and SUNY Oswego, where she accumulated several hours of post-graduate work.

Mrs. MacDonald was a teacher in Mexico and Minetto schools for more than 20 years, and later was a substitute teacher for several years in Oswego.

Previous to her teaching career, she had been a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company.

She was a member of the N.Y.S. Teachers Association, enjoyed line dancing, and was an avid golfer.

Surviving are two sons, Gary MacDonald of Reno Nevada, and David (Nancy) MacDonald of Red Creek; two daughters, Kathy (Joseph) Cavallaro, and Susan (Seth) McGowan, both of Tupper Lake; and seven grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Cavallaro, Gregory and Marcia MacDonald, and Laura, Scott and Sarah McGowan.

She was predeceased by her husband, George MacDonald, who died in 1984.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church.

Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tenn. 38105-1942, or to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, N.Y. 13057.
