FULTON, NY – Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Call-N-Ride bus service is making it easier than ever for the elderly and persons with special needs to travel within Oswego County.
OCO’s Call-N-Ride bus service is now available free of charge to those ages 60 and over.
Operated through OCO Transportation Services, and funded in part by Oswego County Office for the Aging and Exelon, Call-N-Ride provides curb-to-curb transportation for the elderly and persons with special needs.
For those ages 60 and over living on fixed incomes the access to safe, cost free transportation provides them with a newfound sense of freedom of mobility.
“Our Call-N-Ride bus service is available for medical, social or personal business,” said Director of OCO Transportation Services Gary Mashaw. “Call-N-Ride provides an invaluable service to our communities and we are pleased to now offer this safe, reliable transportation at no charge for those ages 60 and older. Over the years our number of riders has more than doubled. The demand is there and we wish to meet it by making it even more accessible.”
Launched in 1999, when the Vision Network of Oswego County partnered with Oswego County ARISE, Oswego County Visually Impaired, Oswego County Opportunities and the Oswego County Legislature, OCO’s Call-N-Ride bus service allows people who may not be able drive due to vision loss or other difficulties retain their independence.
“Call-N-Ride allows them to schedule doctor visits, hairdresser appointments, go shopping, or visit family and friends. They don’t need to rely on others for rides, and they are much less likely to become isolated,” added Mashaw.
Available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Call-N-Ride operates in Oswego County with a schedule that includes specific days each week, or every other week, in zones that have been established by school district.
Zone 1 – (Sandy Creek, Pulaski and Mexico school districts). The first and third Monday of each month.
