Fulton, NY – In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, June 27, Oswego County Opportunities’ Crisis and Development Services encourages community members to be tested for HIV, a disease that targets the immune system.
An annual observance throughout the nation, National HIV Testing Day helps to raise awareness of the importance of HIV testing.
“There are many people in the United States who are unaware they have HIV. As the slogan for National HIV Testing Day states, “Take the test, take control.” This day promotes testing so people can take control of their lives. There are as many as 1.2 million people living with the disease and of these people as many as 200,000 are unaware they are infected,” said Ellen Lazarek, collaboration manager, Health Education, OCO Crisis and Development Services.
On Wednesday OCO will host two testing locations: The Fulton Health Center, 522 S. Fourth St., Fulton, and the Oswego Health Center, 10 George St., Oswego, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
These services will be available to the public at no charge and every test will be kept confidential.
“Testing for HIV doesn’t have to be hassle,” said Lazarek. “Simple blood tests or even saliva tests are quick and simple and come with fast results. We invite community members to stop in on Wedneday, June 27th for their free and confidential HIV testing. It never hurts to stay informed! Again, these tests are open to the public and are available to people of any age.”
Lazarek added that HIV Testing is available at any OCO Health Center any time during business hours.
“OCO has Health Centers in Oswego, Fulton, Mexico, and Pulaski so you can find a site nearest to you,” said Lazarek.
