FULTON, NY – Fifty years ago Oswego County Opportunities was established as the community action agency for Oswego County with a goal of developing anti-poverty programs that would eliminate the impact of poverty and increase the quality of life in Oswego County.
From its humble beginnings OCO has grown to become a vital resource for Oswego County.
Over the past 50 years OCO’s impact has been immeasurable.
Today OCO operates on an annual budget of $28 million and provides services to approximately 22,000 people annually in over 60 different programs.
Additionally, with a staff of 500 employees, OCO is one of Oswego County’s top ten employers and plays a major role in the economic health of Oswego County.
On November 3 OCO invites community members to join them for its 50th Anniversary celebration, “Giving Thanks for 50 Years.”
The event will be held at the Lake Ontario Convention Center in Oswego from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
“This is an exciting time for us,” said OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier. “Since its inception OCO’s mission has been unwavering. For the past 50 years OCO has worked to inspire partnerships and provide services that empower people, support communities and change lives.”
OCO’s “Giving Thanks for 50 Years” celebration takes place November 3. The event will feature Thanksgiving themed food and refreshments.
There will be a number of food stations throughout the venue where attendees can enjoy harvest season delicacies donated by several area restaurants including La Parrilla, Canale’s Restaurant, Blue Moon Grill, The Press Box, Mimi’s, and The Eis House.
Additional donations from Ontario Orchards, Colosse Cheese, CiTi, and Country Fresh Foods will round out the menu.
Eagle Beverage is providing wine and craft beer that will pair with the assorted foods at each station.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Cortini Brothers.
“We are very fortunate to have the support of these caring, community minded restaurants and businesses. In addition to these donations a number of businesses and individuals have signed on as event sponsors including Exelon Generation, Pathfinder Bank, Fulton Savings Bank, Novelis, Americar, Renzi Foods, Great Outdoors RV, Glider Oil, Atom and Falecia Avery, Mitchell’s Speedway Press, Pamela Caraccioli, Big John Sales, Inc., and the Kinney Drugs Foundation. It’s moving to know that so many of our community members acknowledge the work that OCO does and recognizes the tremendous impact that OCO has on Oswego County,” said OCO Development Coordinator Margaret Barclay.
