Along with testing and numbering them, the tops will be color coded per NFPA guidelines indicating the amount of water flow per hydrant.

“Good water supply is one of the best resources a fire department can utilize during firefighting operations and this testing project will be a large part of that. We understand that this may cause some minor inconvenience to residents,  mainly in the  possibility of discolored water, but the benefits far outweigh this,” said Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie.

If possible when there is testing in your area, run your outside spigot until the water clears, the chief suggests.

“Feel free to ask the firefighters any questions you may have or call the Oswego Fire Department at 343-2161,” he added.
