Oswego High School senior Drake Becksted shattered the New York State Public High School Athletic Association record in the prelims of the 100 freestyle as he advances to the NYSPHAA championship finals on Saturday.
Becksted finished in 44.95 to set a new state record and enter the finals in the 100 free as the top seed.
The former NYSPHAA record for the event was 45.12.
Earlier in the day, Becksted turned in a lifetime best in the 50 free to earn the top seed in tomorrow’s finals. His 20.55 paced the field.
Meanwhile, OHS swimmer Reeve Callen is among the top 16 in the 100 free and will advance in competition and also turned in a lifetime best of 1:45.39 in the 200 free.
The 200 and 400 free relay teams each have qualified for Saturday’s finals at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association swimming championships in Buffalo.
