OSWEGO, NY – After a very successful season the Oswego High bowling teams are anxiously awaiting this year’s Section III Tournament on February 18.
The teams wound up the regular season on Thursday at the Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego against visiting Central Square.
The boys’ captured the league crown with a 16-0 record and the girls’ improved upon their already successful season and headed to post season play.
Fans watching were more nervous than the boys as Oswego was seeking a perfect 16-0 record.
Oswego won the first game 1,1160-971, but Central Square won the second game by 20 pins (1,062-1,042).
One game came down to the difference between a perfect year or 15-1.
With a 266 by Gavin Gilbert, a 258 from Cameron Byrne, a 245 from Matt Clemons, a 226 by Zach Delbrocco and Joey Clavelli’s 197 the Bucs rolled a 1,192 to win over the 1,049 by the Red Hawks.
Three seven hundred series wound up the regular season for the Bucs as Byrne had a 760 (256-246-258) while Clemons had a 713 (265-203-245) and Gilbert had a 704 (233-205-266).
Dan Cliff rolled the first two games with a 356 (191-165) and Delbrocco was in the third game with his 226.
In non-scoring series were rolled by Delbrocco 697 (203-268-226), Kevin Goodale 668 (184-256-228), Jim Rose 637 (221-181-235), Ethan Simmons 312 (147-165) and David Woolworth 208 (109-99).
Coach Bob Hoefer said, “The team finished strong winning two of three points. On the season the boys’ are 38-9 in winning the Central New York City League title.”
Seniors rolling for the final home match included Dan Cliff and Cameron Byrne for the boys while seven girls including Caroline Reynolds, Victoria Soper, Ashlee Lytle, Rachel Nye, Sierra Adams, Abbey Henderson and Christie Hoefer concluded their home Buc career.
Hoefer was extremely proud of the Lady Bucs. He said, “The past two years we have finished in the bottom of the league, but this year for the first time the girls qualified for Section III Tournament action with a 9-7 record and 27-21 in games.”
Oswego swept all three games against the Red Hawks with a win of 774-634 kicking off the day followed by a 669-664 victory and a 720-689 finale.
Christie Hoefer had a team leading 513 (173-174-166) and Ashlee Lytle had a 500 (168-170-162).
Also scoring for the Bucs were Sierra Adams 428 (149-123-156), Rachel Nye 297 (147-150), Victoria Soper 208 (122-86), Caroline Reynolds 137 and Abbey Henderson 80.
In the non-scoring series Nye had a 441 (147-144-150), Tori Gardner had a 428 (123-118-187), Soper 309 (101-122-86), Meghan Flack 307 (86-107-114), Reynolds 270 (137-133), Henderson 236 (156-80) and Clemons 211 (92-119).
