OHS Musician Tabbed For U.S. Army All-American Bowl Band

Staff Report

OSWEGO, NY – Representatives from the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour will visit Oswego High School on Wednesday to officially select clarinet player Joseph Bertonneau to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Oswego High School will honor Bertonneau before his fellow band members, classmates, fans and family during a post rehearsal assembly.

The All-American Marching Band performs at halftime of the nationally-broadcasted U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

By becoming an Army All-American band member, Bertonneau joins an elite group.

Only 125 high school band members among the millions in the United States are selected each year.

In the last four years six members of the Marching Buccaneers have been selected by the Army for this honor.

Last year, Oswego’s Gina Bartholomew and Jeffrey Murray were picked for the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. Thomas James Jr. and Jacqueline Hondro become members of the select group of All-American musicians in 2010. In October 2009, they tapped Kristen Bartholomew and Chelsea Bartlett was picked in 2008.

Band members are chosen not just because they excel in music, but because they embody the same values of our Army Strong Soldiers – values like Loyalty and Respect.

The game will be played in January 2013. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl draws a crowd of nearly 40,000 to the Alamodome, and is the most-watched sporting event on television over the weekend, excluding the NFL playoffs.
