OHS Winter Guard to Compete in WGI Competition


OSWEGO – The Oswego High School Varsity Winter Guard will travel to Rochester Saturday (February 20), to compete in a Winter Guard International Regional Competition.

The guard will perform in preliminary competition at 1:43 p.m. at Gates Chili High School.

Performing its 2016 program, “In the Heart of a Monster,” the eight-member ensemble will aim to score well enough to advance to the finals competition which will begin later in the day at 5:30 p.m.

Oswego will compete in the scholastic A class.

Other schools in the class include Jamestown HS, Batavia HS, Jordan-Elbridge HS, Sherburne-Earlville HS, Liverpool HS, Central Square HS, Gateway Regional HS (New Jersey,) Baldwinsville HS, Gates Chili HS, Homer HS, North Syracuse Central, Mohonasen HS, LeRoy HS, and Victor HS.

The top eight scoring groups in preliminary competition will advance to finals.

The members of the 2016 Oswego High School Varsity Winter Guard are Vicki Abbott, Abby Christian, Jillian Dowdle, Cierra Dunning, Cody Fadden, Alainna Mulvihill, Hailey Reed, and Sarah Reynolds.

The staff includes Ali Sivers, Kait LaVerne, show designer Ryan Bronner, and director Michael Tierney.

The winter guard will return to local competition on March 5 when the Varsity and Junior Varsity winter guards at Oswego host the 5th annual Snowflake Spectacular at Leighton Elementary School.

The show will begin at 5 p.m.
